ESB International were appointed last year by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) as their Project Management Consultant for the Waad Alshamal project, in Saudi Arabia. Waad Alshamal is a 1390MW CCGT which includes 50MW of concentrated solar. As part of this project, 20 Saudi engineers travelled to Ireland in September to undergo 8 weeks intense training with ESB International.
The group were primarily based down in the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise for lecture type training where over 80 modules were delivered by 35 different technical experts. To reinforce the classroom training the group visited various ESB power plants (Poolbeg, Lough Ree Power, Moneypoint, Ardnacrusha, Tulough Hill) the National Training Centre, DIT Bolton Street and Avonmore Electrical.
The 8 week training course was completed on November 11th . ESB International invited each of the engineers back to our Head Office in Stephen Court on Friday afternoon for a farewell reception before they flew back to Saudi Arabia. The group were welcomed by senior managers and their trainers from ESB International and each engineer was presented with a certificate, highlighting their completion of the course.
Senior management from ESB International acknowledge the major collaborative effort required to successfully deliver this training and would like to thank everyone who made a contribution. Another group is expected in 2017 and we look forward to working with everyone again to deliver another successful course.
